Crypto-families are lists of related words that are encrypted with a letter substitution. In this case, all the lists are related somehow to the medieval times. Each list uses a different letter substitution encryption. An example of a letter substition encrytion may be like this: The word DOG could be encoded to XPQ if D=X, O=P, G=Q.
