BUTTERFLY CRYPTOGRAM PUZZLES: Solutions

MIGRATING

Monarch butterflies have a long migration trip every year. They journey from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico, about two thousand miles, and return to the north again in the spring. That reminds me of the old joke: I just flew in from Mexico and boy are my arms tired.

SPECIES

There are more than twenty-four thousand species of butterflies, but moths are even more numerous. There are about one hundred and forty thousand species of moths known to exist in the world. The only continent where no butterflies live is Antarctica. I wouldn't want to live there either.

BIOLOGY

Butterflies are insects with a head, a thorax, and an abdomen, two antennae on the head and a long curled proboscis. The antennae are not for feeling, they are for smelling. They feed on the nectar from flower heads. They uncurl their proboscis so they can suck the nectar through it.
