Giant pandas are black and white bears that live in temperate bamboo forest in Central China. They are among the rarest animals in the world and have come to symbolize endangered species and conservation efforts. Only sixteen hundred were alive in the wild in two thousand and four.
They live in broadleaf and coniferous forests with a dense undergrowth of bamboo. These forests are at elevations of five thousand to ten thousand feet. Heavy rains or dense mist are throughout the year are common in those forests.
The panda has a bear-like shape. It has black fur patches on its ears, eyes, muzzle, legs and shoulders. The rest of its coat is white. It is thought that their coloring is for camouflage in their shade spotted, snowy and rocky home.
