PIKACHU

The name was created by the merger of two Japanese words, pika and chu. Pika is the Japanese word for the sound of crackling electricity. Chu is the sound a mouse makes.

SERPENTINE CHARACTERS

Ekans and Arbok are both snakelike Pokemon characters. Note that when Ekans is written backwards it is snake. When Arbok is written backwards it is kobra which is very close to cobra, a deadly snake.

JESSE AND JAMES

The Japanese versions of these team rocket characters are called Musashi and Kojiro. Those names are a reference to two rival Samurai.
