GENERAL INFO

A train is a connected series of vehicles for rail transport a moves along a track. It's used to transport passengers or freight. The track is usually two rails but in some cases is a monorail or maglev guideway. Propulsion is often provided by a separate deisel powered locomotive.

INVENTION

Cornish inventor Richrad Trevithick built the first successful locomotives. In eighteen hundred and four his first steam locomotive hauled ten tons or iron and seventy passengers over nine miles in Wales. However it was too heavy for the cast iron rails of the time and only made three runs in total.

STEAM TRAIN

The first railway locomotives were steam powered. The steam was usually created by burning coal. The first commercial use of a steam locomotive was in Leeds, England in eighteen twelve and remained the most common type of locomotive until after World War II.
