WHY THEY'RE ABANDONED

It was Hansel and Gretel’s stepmother who came up with the idea to leave the children in the woods. She convinced their father that due to the famine they could not feed all four of them. She claimed it’s better to sacrifice two instead of all four.

THE TRAIL HOME

One night Hansel overheard the plan to leave them in the woods, so he collected small shiny stones that night. He left a trail of these pebbles on their way into the woods. By the light of the moon they could see the shiny stones and find their way home.

THE END OF THE WITCH

The witch planned to trick Gretel into getting into the hot oven and cook her. Gretel knew this was a trick, so she turned the trick on the witch and convinced the witch to get close to the oven to show her what to do. Gretel then pushed the witch into the oven.
