WINTER OLYMPICS BIATHLON CRYPTOGRAM PUZZLES: Solutions

DESCRIPTION

The winter biathlon combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting into a competition. It's basically a cross-country race broken up with either two or four shooting rounds, half the rounds standing and half in prone position.

ORIGIN

The origin of the sport is in Norway. It was used as an exercise for Norwegian soldiers as alternative training for the military. The first ski and rifle club was formed in eighteen sixty-one in Trysil, Norway. Biathlon became an official Winter Olympics sport in nineteen sixty.

RULES

The biathlon is a timed event. Depending on a competitor's shooting performance either extra time or extra distance is added for missed targets. Split times are kept at several points along the race to keep track of and compare racers results at each point.
